A Family Affair

Rehearsal for Janet 2.0 with the company of Keila Cordova Dances involves many things: water bottles, ace bandages, stopwatches, sweaty dancers, a thoughtful Keila and all too often:

A baby on the dance floor! This is Dax, Keila and Andrew's adorable son. (Keila is the lady with the wide stance on the left) He comes to every rehearsal and spends his time in rehearsal finding water bottles to knock over, shoes to chew on, pens to wave around, floors to crawl on and resting dancers (and stage managers!) to play with. He sometimes gets jealous of the action and joins the dancers on the marley. They don't appear to mind, dancing around him or scooping him up in beautiful, seemingly choreographed movements.

Sometimes Keila will strap him to her stomach and demonstrate a piece of movement. He delights in this. Sometimes he coos or sings along to the music rather loudly. Sometimes he sits on the floor and does his own wiggly dance. Sometimes he applauds the dancers, which they love. He's learning how to pull himself up and is thinking about maybe taking a few steps on his own.

In all of this, Dax is consistently wonderful, and an amazing addition to our rehearsal process. Last year he was curled up inside Keila's tummy, but still very much a part of our show. This year he gets to experience it on the outside.

My Fringe experience = family = love.
